HealthDay News recently posted a story about forehead lift patient's satisfaction on the US News website. The statistics come from a German survey, and most patients said they would recommend the procedure to others.
A forehead, or brow, lift is typically used to reduce or remove signs of aging around the top of a patient's face. The procedure can also help reduce frown lines between the eyebrows.
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), candidates for this procedure usually have sagging or low eyebrows and deep, horizontal creases on their foreheads.
The results of the survey are published in the September/October edition of the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery.
The German researchers surveyed 98 forehead lift patients, with an average follow-up time of three years. All the patients had their procedure done at the University Hospital Rechts der Isar at the Munich Technical University between the years 1994 and 2007.
96 percent of the patients involved in the study were women of an average age of 60. 63 percent of the woman said they would definitely or likely have the procedure done again. When asked if they would recommend the procedure to other people the figures were similar.
The ASAPS estimates that just over 28,000 brow lifts were performed last year in the United States, versus the 116,000 face lifts over the same time period.
“Forehead lifts will usually last a lifetime. Although there is some settling of the brows in the early years, I have never had to repeat one of my brow lifts,” said Dr. Michael Olding, chief of plastic surgery at George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Olding was not involved with the study.
