Transgender Breast Augmentation San Antonio, TX

Male to Female Breast Augmentation

Feeling comfortable in your own skin is a basic human need. If you’re a transgender woman, male to female breast augmentation can be an important step in establishing your feminine identity, and as a result, have a profound impact on your self-esteem and well-being. Our highly regarded San Antonio plastic surgeon Dr. Delio Ortegon specializes in male-to-female breast augmentation. They understand that deciding to have transgender surgery is a very personal and emotional step and would be happy to explain the process in detail with you during a one-on-one consultation.

Who’s A Good Candidate For Male to Female Breast Augmentation?

The primary goal of male to female breast augmentation is to give patients a fuller, more feminine chest. Transgender breast augmentation is performed during your transition – as the first (and/or only) step or after you’ve pursued other physical changes (e.g., hormones, penectomy, vaginoplasty).

However, it is important to note that there are some important steps you must complete before undergoing surgery. You may be a good candidate for a male to female breast augmentation if you:

  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Are physically and psychologically healthy
  • Have undergone at least 3 months of psychotherapy
  • Have a letter of recommendation from a licensed mental
  • health professional
  • Are fully committed to pursuing surgery

Following a one-on-one consultation for transgender breast augmentation San Antonio plastic surgeon, Dr. Ortegon will be able to determine if you are an ideal candidate for male to female breast augmentation.

What Can I Expect During My Transgender Breast Augmentation?

Transgender breast augmentation will follow the same basic steps as traditional female breast augmentation. Male to female breast augmentation can be performed under general anesthesia and is typically completed in 1-2 hoursDr. Ortegon will begin by making an incision for your implant (saline or silicone).

Implants can be inserted through an incision made under the breast, in the armpit or around the nipple. Your surgeon will then create a pocket for implant insertion, usually below the chest muscle. At the conclusion of surgery, Dr. Ortegon will secure all of your incisions with sutures and your chest will be wrapped in gauze dressings and a special surgical bra. He may also place temporary drainage tubes to collect fluid build up at your incision sites. In most cases you will be able to return home the same day as your surgery, but you will need a friend or family member to drive you home.

Recovery and Results

Ensuring that you have a safe and quick recovery is one of plastic surgeon’s primary goals. When you wake up from surgery it is likely that you will experience some swelling, bruising and discomfort. This can usually be controlled through a combination of prescription pain medication and ice packs. You will also need to wear a support bra for up to six weeks.

Stitches are generally removed in about a week, at which point San Antonio transgender breast augmentation patients can begin to resume most normal activities. Intense physical activities and heavy lifting should be restricted for at least a month. The final results of your procedure won’t be realized for several weeks. It will take time for swelling to fully resolve and for your implants to settle into a natural position. It is important to note that surgically augmented breasts often look and feel somewhat different than natural breasts. They tend to appear more rounded, further apart and firmer. Dr. Ortegon will work with you to design a personalized implant technique to give you the most natural looking results possible.

Female to Male Breast Surgery

At San Antonio Cosmetic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons are also experienced in performing the female to male transgender breast surgery procedure. Transgender males who wish to achieve a more masculine appearance of their chest can undergo this surgery with Dr. Ortegon.

Your procedure will be carefully tailored to meet your own specific needs, taking into consideration your goals, size and shape of your existing breasts, and skin elasticity. Your female to male breast surgery may consist of a combination of the removal of excess skin and tissue, replacement of the nipples, and liposuction of any excess amounts of fat.
